While others are waiting for customers, smart businesses are mining opportunities.

Summer is finally here.

Not calendar summer. Real summer.

The kind of summer where the days stretch long into the evening, the lake turns that unmistakable Tahoe blue, and everyone suddenly remembers why they live here—or why they've been waiting all year to visit.

The heat has arrived. The trails are opening. Boats are returning to the water. Decks are filling up, (mine with pots of flowers). After a long winter and a slow start to spring, it finally feels like summer.

And in Tahoe, summer is something special.

Our season is short. We know that. Before we know it, we'll be talking about fall colors and winter storms. That's why summer in the mountains feels different. When it arrives, we embrace it completely.

There is a certain energy that comes with June.

Visitors begin exploring. Events start filling the calendar. Businesses dust off ideas they've been saving all winter and finally bring them to life.

As a marketer, I've noticed something interesting over the years.

The businesses that stand out aren't always the ones with the biggest budgets.

They're the ones paying attention to the opportunities already around them.

While some businesses are waiting to see what kind of summer this will be, others are already mining the opportunities the season provides.

Here are three gold nuggets worth uncovering.

Gold Nugget #1

Hone Your Image. Hone Your Message.

Last week we talked about capturing summer while Tahoe is showing off. Now it's time to put those images to work. A beautiful Tahoe photo can grab attention, but attention alone doesn't create customers. Your imagery should reinforce the story you're trying to tell about your business.

Ask yourself:

  • Do these photos reflect our brand?
  • Do they communicate what makes us different?
  • Do they support the message we want customers to remember?

The strongest marketing happens when your image and your message work together.

Gold Nugget #2

Stop Selling What You Do

Customers rarely buy a product simply because it exists. They're buying the outcome, the memory, or the experience that comes with it. Summer is the perfect time to shift your marketing from features to benefits.

Instead of selling:

  • A boat charter, sell a family memory
  • A restaurant meal, sell a celebration
  • A bike rental, sell an adventure

People remember experiences far longer than they remember products.

Gold Nugget #3

Summer Isn't a Season. It's Next Year's Marketing Campaign.

Many businesses think of summer as something to survive. The smartest businesses see it as an opportunity to build marketing assets they'll use long after the season ends. The momentum created today can continue working for your business through fall, winter, and beyond.

This summer, focus on capturing:

  • Customer stories and testimonials
  • Photos and videos that showcase your business
  • Events and experiences that make your brand memorable

The businesses that enter the off-season with the most momentum are usually the ones that spent summer collecting stories worth sharing.

Get to the Surface

Summer in Tahoe is glorious.

It arrives quickly, fills our days with possibility, and before we know it, we're watching the seasons change once again.

The businesses that make the most of it aren't simply waiting for customers to arrive. They're paying attention to the opportunities all around them.

They're refining their message.

They're creating experiences worth remembering.

They're documenting stories they can share long after summer has ended.

Because visibility doesn't happen by accident.

It happens when your message, your story, and your business consistently show up where people can see them.

This summer, don't wait for opportunities to arrive.

Go out and find them.

Mine them.

Share them.

And most importantly, get your business where it belongs.
