A quick audit to keep you visible all summer.

The 4th of July has come and gone, and we’re officially in the heart of Tahoe’s summer. Shakespeare at the park has begun the mark of mid-summer. If you’re like most local businesses, you’ve been moving fast—posting updates, sharing event photos, and (hopefully) connecting with new faces. But when’s the last time you looked at your social media the way your customers do?

This week, I’m inviting you to do a quick, mid-summer “audit” of your online presence. The goal isn’t to criticize—it’s to get a clear picture of what’s working, where you might add something fresh, and what you can adjust before the season shifts again.

Your 3-Step July Social Media Audit

1. First impressions matter; open your Instagram, Facebook, or LinkedIn profile as if you’re a first-time visitor. Try incognito on Chrome.

  • Does your current content reflect what’s happening in your business right now?
  • Is your bio still accurate and inviting?
  • Are your hours, contact info, and links up to date?

Bonus tip: Ask a friend or colleague to take a look at your page. Have them click through your posts and links—then tell you honestly what stands out, what’s missing, and what could use a little more clarity.

2. Engagement Check: Look at your last few posts.

  • Which ones actually sparked a response—comments, shares, DMs?
  • Are you replying quickly and personally?
  • This is a good time to mine for testimonials.
  • Where could you invite more conversation? (Try a poll or ask a simple question.) I struggle with this tip. When your business is on full speed, high season, make sure you can handle the check in required, but I left it in because in another 3 weeks it will be time to reach out and remind your people how much fun they had. Good time for a top 5 2025 summer memories poll.

3. Find the Gaps. With a few weeks of summer left, what haven’t you shared?

  • Is there a local event, new service, or customer story worth featuring?
  • Have you tried a short-form video or behind-the-scenes peek lately? Now is the time to collect and store content for future so a video capture now will get double duty.
  • What could you schedule now that will keep you top-of-mind heading into August? Here’s where that top 5 of Summer 2025 poll can come in handy. A post could get them thinking about it.

Why Bother?

A quick audit now can save you a lot of time—and help you make the most of the busy weeks ahead. Even small updates can improve your reach and engagement. Plus, it’s easier to tweak things now than scramble later.

And if you’d like a second set of eyes, I’m happy to take a quick look at your feeds and offer a few tailored suggestions. Just hit “reply.”

Let’s make the rest of the summer count.

Nothing better than a good question to jump into.

Reach out for a talk over coffee or a hike, I give information freely. I only ask to be paid when I do the work. tgold@bigwaterci.com
