Unleashing The Dragon: The role of AI in marketing.

Welcome to the new world of AI in marketing, It’s a bit new and uncomfortable as I begin to step out of my comfort zone and incorporate Ai into my own writing. A good friend of mine gave me an antidote for social media that I feel works well here. You can run from the dragon and get your butt burned, face the dragon to do battle, or grab the reins and ride the dragon. I’m always up for an exciting ride.

I began this newsletter journey as a way to get better at communicating. Now with Ai, I’m not sure if this is cheating or just moving forward and keeping up with technology. In the late 90’s digital video changed everything in video production. It lowered the cost of entry and the tech made it easier to compete with the old guard. This is how I entered the media production industry.

What I find important in times of change is developing a strong moral compass to use as a guide when it comes to new technology. I could never have entered the marketing industry if I didn’t believe that it was more than red flashing buttons and language manipulation to make people buy. I believe in the marketing world of helping businesses make the right connections to the right people who need and want what they do. To achieve this I needed to master clear precise communication in a very complex world. Those of you who know me, know that I am a high functioning creative whose thoughts come in scattered bursts. Organizing them into coherent paths of understanding is a lifelong challenge. Now I’m learning how to ask the Ai online world of vast information (ChatGPT) for bite-sized Trina bits in a comprehensible order to incorporate into my newsletters.

Here are five ways I am using AI in my newsletters:

  1. Generate Idea Lists: Incorporate AI-powered recommendations for the newsletter to suggest relevant articles or offers based on my reader's interests and preferences.

  2. Subject Line Optimization: This is a big one for me. Writing a subject line or headline for an ad is really hard for me personally. AI helps me to optimize my newsletter subject lines to increase open rates. I utilize AI tools to analyze language patterns, engagement data, and historical performance to suggest compelling subject lines that are more likely to capture the readers' attention.

  3. Content Creation Assistance: AI-powered tools can assist in content creation by providing topic suggestions, generating outlines, or even writing drafts based on my input. This gets my juices flowing when I’m staring at a blank page. I use AI as a writing assistant to enhance the quality and efficiency of my newsletter creation process.

  4. Sentiment Analysis: AI can analyze the sentiment of your newsletter content to gauge how readers may perceive it. By understanding the emotional tone of your writing, you can tailor your messaging to evoke the desired response from your audience, ensuring your newsletter strikes the right chord. I have a tendency to write in my current emotions like anger, frustration, or industry jargon which can ruin a good article.

  5. A/B Testing: AI-powered A/B testing platforms can help optimize a newsletter's performance. By testing different versions of your marketing, AI algorithms can analyze engagement metrics and provide insights on which elements, such as layout, design, or call-to-action placement, drive higher click-through rates and conversions. I’m saving this one for larger future projects. I still have to wrap my head around it.

So in the wake of yet another big change year, 2022 was filled to the brim, I wanted to proceed with transparency. Ai is a tool that I fully intend to utilize. Just like I did the first digital cameras that led to the first digital media delivery systems (Youtube for example). An industry-disrupting change that enhanced my life and gave me a career that I truly enjoy in Digital Marketing.
