Tahoe time

Now we are officially in summer do we really have to plan for fall?

Yes, even though the seeds have been planted and the summer crop is growing.

We tend to the visitors and hope for a bountiful harvest. A few of our local businesses are already harvesting, some will be ready to sow a fall crop or switch to winter work, and the rest will be preparing for long storage till next year. We live in a four-season business world in Tahoe. The bustle of Summer & Winter nestled between the quickly emerging shoulder seasons of Spring and Fall. Knowing the seasons and what they mean to your business is the difference from just barely eeking out a living to thriving in the mountains. Tick tock, right now is the time to think about your Fall message.

Three things to think about in July.

What will my message be this Fall?

When do I need to begin delivering that message?

What are my deadlines to make #1 and #2 successful?

Message:

You may be at full throttle right now but do take the time to listen to your people. Are they someone who may enjoy a quieter time? Would they come back at a discounted Fall rate? A different Tahoe experience? You’ve spent all this time and energy getting them in the door now is the time to plant a seed and see if it takes hold.

Timing:

No one likes a buzz kill, especially during the heat of the summer. So keep the hard sales pitch turned down you’re just planting seeds right now. Watering won’t happen till mid-summer. Mid-August is the time to turn on the sprinklers, do a little thinning and start preparing for the fall. Your fall message should be clear. By mid-month your Fall content should be on its way to completion and a plan in place for delivery. Our seasons are plentiful but short-lived so be ready.

Deadlines:

July - Get your message for fall.

August - Begin sowing the seeds. Mid August turn on the water.

September - Labor Day, time to go all-in and deliver your message. October is right around the corner and the next season’s crop will need to be planted.

So as we enter July keep your eyes and ears open to your customer's future needs. In the back of your mind start forming your fall message and perhaps throw out a few seeds to see if they will take.

We live here because we love what the high sierras have to offer us all year long. Take a moment to enjoy the glorious days of summer. Whatever your passion may be.
